Community Briefs: Church to hold mental health seminar

May 29-- May 29--ROCKY MOUNT -- The Open Door Ministry of Faith will have a seminar discussion on Christianity and mental health hosted by the Rev. Emanuel R. Shell at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at the Rocky Mount Event Center, 285 Main St. The event is free, but space is limited. Email danashell43@gmail.com to reserve a seat.

Episcopal celebration set for Friday

An Episcopal celebration for Bishop Ernestine Hopkins McGee is planned for 6 p.m. Friday, May 31 at the Darden Alumni Building, 1600 Lipsomb Road. Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for children ages 7-12. For more information or for tickets, call Gloria Carter at 252-360-1143.

Food, clothing distribution slated

MIDDLESEX -- "Feed the Need," a free food and clothing distribution, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 1 at the First Baptist Church of Middlesex's resource center, 103007 S. Oak St. The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and Zaxby's joins the church in sponsoring the event. For more information, call 252-235-4740.

Father-son empowerment service set

Crossroad Street Ministry will present a fathers' and sons' empowerment day from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at 600 Nash St. at the corner of Nash and Pender streets with vendors, speakers, entertainment and food. Youth Day in the Park scheduled

Youth Day in the Park will be held from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, June 1 at Washington Carver Heights Community Park with free food, drinks, prizes, games and bicycles to be given away for children ages 2-14. For more information, call James Haney at 252-243-2557.

Food pantry plans open house

SPRING HOPE -- A Touch of the Father's Love Ministry will hold an open house at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 4 at the food pantry, 516 E. Nash St.

Park to host meditation session

Paula Furiness will lead a meditation session from 10-10:45 a.m. Wednesday, June 5 at the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park. Participants are asked to bring a folding chair. In the event of inclement weather, the session will be canceled.

Festival planned at Toisnot Park

Jamar Freeman and Dennis Woods will present a day of fun and games for the family from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at Toisnot Park. Activities will include face-painting, free prizes, bounce houses, free food, free kids' ID cards, free haircuts and an all-star kickball game.
