State names Christie Reed new director of Northwest Center for Behavioral Health

June 03-- Jun. 3--Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) has named Christie Reed, of Mooreland, as executive director of Northwest Center for Behavioral Health in Woodward.

Reed, who was named to the post in a press release Thursday, has previous experience in community mental health services in Colorado and Kansas.

She worked in Denver as a professional counselor and in community mental health services for several years, as well as in Garden City, Kan.

At Compass Behavioral Health in Garden City, she was an outpatient therapist, director of Community Support Services for the severely mentally ill, and created an infant and early childhood mental health program, according to the press release.

Most recently, Reed was in charge of the Kansas Children's Services League Head Start program, overseeing a 10-county region with a 90-person staff and $4.75 million budget.

Reed received both her bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

ODMHSAS Commis­sioner Terri White said Reed's administrative experience in the field of mental health, as well as her familiarity with overseeing a multi-county area, are great attributes for this position.

"NCBH covers a very wide region of the state, in a predominantly rural area," White said. "Christie already understands the challenges involved in helping people access services. Also, she's already familiar with this area, so these are bonuses. We're really excited and fortunate to have her as our new executive director."

NCBH services include outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment offices in Alva, Enid, Fairview, Guymon and Woodward; inpatient acute care services at Fort Supply; residential substance abuse treatment for men and women at The Lighthouse in Woodward; and community prevention programs covering numerous counties in Northwest Oklahoma.
