ArtsQuest honors veterans, remembers the fallen with speical events this weekend

May 22-- May 22--ArtsQuest will be holding its annual SteelStacks' Memorial Day Celebration in Bethlehem this weekend, honoring veterans with performances, workshops and other activities.

The event will kick off at 1 p.m. Saturday when the public is invited to the Fowler Blast Furnace Room to hear stories from veterans and their families about those who died while serving their country.

According to an ArtsQuest news release, the session includes Jenny Pacanowski of Women Veterans Empowered and Thriving, who will explain how ancient cultures used performance to bring the community together to grieve and celebrate.

The Banana Factory will hold a free writing and storytelling workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday to aid veterans in coping with their grief and other emotions outside the typical Memorial Day barbecues.

At 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, a luminaria display will honor family and friends who served in the U.S. armed forces. Anyone who wants to purchase luminaria should fill out a form at steelstacks.org. Proceeds will be donated to the Lehigh Valley American Gold Star Mothers.

The news release also listed these events: A free screening of "The Unknowns" in the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas at noon Monday. A "National Moment of Remembrance" service at 3 p.m. and "A Time to Remember" service at 5 p.m. Monday.

The weekend will also feature musical performances from various artists including The Beautiful Distortion, Hydraulic Line, and Maybird.
